Johnson County offers numerous public parks and trails for those seeking outdoor leisure. From biking and hiking trails to playgrounds to sports fields, you can find recreation amenities for all ages at the parks and trails listed below.

Antioch Park: Located in Merriam, this oldest park in the county park system features two fishing lakes, walking paths, Johnson County’s only Vietnam War memorial, the iconic Dodge Town playground and more.

Big Bull Creek Park: A 2,060-acre (834 hectares) park, located between Edgerton and Gardner, focusing on nature-based learning, and featuring an 18-hole disc golf course.

Bietigheim-Bissingen Park: A park in Overland Park featuring a playground, a loop trail, bocce ball courts, a nature boardwalk, a water table, musical instruments, benches and shaded shelters and honors Overland Park’s German sister city.

Black Hoof Park: A park in Lenexa featuring the 35-acre (14 hectares) Lake Lenexa, dam and spillway, miles of trails and more.

Ernie Miller Park: A 125-acre (51 hectares) nature park in Olathe featuring nature trails and a variety of habitats (Note: The nature center is currently closed.)

Gardner Junction Park: A roadside park in Gardner and one of the premier historic trail sites in Kansas, located near where westward travelers split off onto the wagon roads to Santa Fe, California or Oregon.

Gum Springs Park: A park in Shawnee featuring a playground, soccer and baseball/softball fields and more.

Heritage Park: A 1,000-plus acre (405 hectares) park in Olathe featuring picnic shelters, lake, dog off-leash area, 18-hole disc golf course, softball, football and soccer fields, and a golf course and driving range.

Indian Creek Trail: A paved multi-use trail covering more than 20 miles (32 kilometers) across Kansas City, Overland Park and more.

Ironwoods Park: A 115-acre (47 hectares) park in Leawood featuring the Prairie Oak Nature Center, The Lodge at Ironwoods, the Oxford School House, Camp Ironwoods, Ironwoods Challenge Course and the Ironwoods Amphitheater.

Kill Creek Park: A park in Olathe with four picnic shelters, and over 12 miles (19 kilometers) of hiking, mountain bike, and equestrian trails, and 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers) of paved, shared use trails.

Kill Creek Streamway Park: A linear park in De Soto consisting of two separate segments of shared-use trail totaling about seven miles (11 kilometers) as well as an off-leash dog area.
