Johnson County offers hundreds of acres of public parks and trails for those seeking outdoor leisure. From biking and hiking trails to playgrounds to sports fields, you can find a variety of recreation amenities for all ages at the parks and trails listed below.

  • Black Hoof Park: A park in Lenexa featuring the 35-acre Lake Lenexa, dam and spillway, miles of trails and more.

  • ​Cedar Niles Park: A park in Olathe west of K-7 featuring biking and hiking trails, streams, a playground and more.

  • Celebration Park: A community park and sports complex in Gardner with baseball and soccer fields, concession stands, 10-acre lake and more.

  • Ernie Miller Park: A 125-acre nature park in Olathe featuring nature trails and a variety of habitats (Note: The nature center is currently closed.)

  • Gum Springs Park: A park in Shawnee featuring a playground, soccer and baseball/softball fields and more.

  • Heritage Park: A 1,000-plus acre park in Olathe featuring picnic shelters, lake, dog off-leash area, 18-hole disc golf course, softball, football and soccer fields, and a golf course and driving range.

  • Indian Creek Trail: A paved multi-use trail covering more than 20 miles across Kansas City, Overland Park and more.

  • Johnson County Square: A green space in downtown Olathe, featuring a community green, walkway, performance stage, History Plaza and more.

  • Meadowbrook Park: A park in Prairie Village featuring the Treeline Adventure destination playground, Grand Pavilion, shelters, pickleball courts, clubhouse and more.

  • Mohawk Park: A park in Mission featuring an all-abilities playground, multi-sport court, pavilion and more.

  • Pioneer Crossing Park: A park in Shawnee featuring a playground and sculptures commemorating the pioneer trails that passed through the city.

  • Rolling Magic Skate Park: An inclusive community skate park in Lenexa designed for all ages and skill levels.

  • Sar-Ko-Park Trails Park: A 50-plus acre park in Lenexa featuring the Legler Barn Museum, disc golf course, playgrounds, roller hockey rink, fishing and more.

  • Shawnee Mission Park: A 1,600-plus acre park in Shawnee featuring a 120-acre lake with a swimming beach and marina, picnic areas, archery range, disc golf course, biking and hiking trails and more.

  • Strang Park:  A neighborhood park in Overland Park featuring an inclusive playground, family-friendly restrooms, gaming areas and more.

  • Tomahawk Creek Trail: A paved multi-use covering 12 miles across Johnson County.

  • Thomas S. Stoll Memorial Park: An 80-acre park in Overland Park featuring a walking trail, picnic areas, playground, dog off-leash area, athletic playing fields and more.

  • Thompson Park: A community park in downtown Overland Park a playground, splash pad, performance stage, shelters and more.

  • Veterans Memorial Park: A park in Olathe home to the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument, MIA-POW Memorial, Memorial Arboretum, Memorial Plaza and more.

  • Veterans Park: A park in Spring Hill home to Veterans Memorial Plaza, featuring a playground, fishing and more.
